In an engaging and practical case series, leading experts in psychogastroenterology discuss how to utilize psychological interventions with complex and unique GI presentations. This case presentation includes a didactic presentation, including an overview of the condition being treated, the rationale for psychological treatment and the scientific basis for the approach. This is followed by a case example to illustrate the condition and approach being presented. This lecture will discuss the application of acceptance and committment therapy with a patient with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and an ostomy.

Learning Objectives:

 1. Identify common concerns of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) referred for psychological and behavioral treatments

 2. Describe the structure and core components of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for GI conditions
